Dr. Lewis Townsend is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. His practice is now limited to Gynecology. Dr. Townsend received his medical degree from The George Washington University, and completed his residency at Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Townsend has served as the Chief of Obstetrics at Columbia Hospital for Women, and he has been recognized by Washingtonian Magazine as one of the Top Gynecologists in the Tri-State area for many years. Dr. Townsend specializes in laparoscopic surgery, minimally invasive laparoscopic hysterectomies, hysteroscopic procedures, colposcopy and laser surgery. Dr. Townsend also specializes in menopausal management and in the management of abnormal Pap Smears.

Dr. Gschwend grew up in central Illinois. He completed his Bachelor of Science degrees at the University of Illinois and Johns Hopkins University. He graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago and did residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Gschwend has been in practice in Bethesda since 1990 and specializes in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery and practices obstetrics. He is Chief of the OB-GYN Quality Assurance Committee at Sibley Memorial, board certified and a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Recently he was listed as one of the areas Top Doctors by the Washingtonian Magazine. Dr. Gschwend is married, has two children and 2 granddaughters.

Dr. Joyce Brody completed her undergraduate education at the University of Pennsylvania in 1974. She graduated magna cum laude and was honored with Phi Beta Kappa. She remained at the University of Pennsylvania where she received her medical degree. She then did her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at George Washington University Hospital. She is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Brodys practice is limited to office based Gynecology, with special interest in gynecologic endocrinology.

Dr. Kleinerman is a native of the DC area. She attended George Washington University School of Medicine and trained at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore where she was Chief Resident. She fulfilled her Public Health Service obligation by practicing in West Virginia, including serving as chief of the medical staff of the local hospital. She returned to DC in 1988 and has practiced here ever since as a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is married, has 3 adult children and pursues equestrian sports.

Kimberly Severn CNM grew up in rural western Pennsylvania and received her BSN from the University of Pennsylvania in 1980. She worked in labor and delivery caring for high & low risk obstetrical patients. She received her MSN from George Mason University in 1985 and her MN in midwifery from Emory University in 1986. She delivered care for women in both Georgia and Florida before becoming the Director of Midwifery at Columbia Hospital for Women. She entered private practice with Dr. Townsend and Dr. Gschwend in 1995 and now delivers at Sibley Memorial Hospital. She is married and the mother of 2 boys. She is active at her children’s school and her church. In her spare time she enjoys sewing and playing the piano.

Cathleen “Cat” is a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology and certified by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. She graduated from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY in 2010 where she maintained a 4.0 GPA making the President’s list for academic excellence and the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. Prior to her position as Lead Sonographer at Capital Women’s Care, she worked in Maternal Fetal Medicine, performing Level II High-Risk OB ultrasounds as well as GYN exams and procedures.

Cat is a respectable, dedicated and a conscientious person with a genuine compassion for others. Her patients react positively to her personable and professional demeanor. She takes the time and attention required to maximize their comfort both before and after each exam. Cat is married and has two dogs, Willow and Henry. Cat loves going to the movies and enjoys practicing yoga and meditation, boxing and vegan cooking.
